Early Hondas: the 1970's

The "UJM" era of motorcycles
In the 1970's most of the Japanese motorcycles shared the same basic design: an air cooled inline 4 cylinder motor on a frame featuring a straight seat and tank. They all looked to be the same to the untrained eye, and until you approached the bikes close enough to read the tank emblems they were pretty much unidentifiable. Hence the term "UJM" which was short for "Universal Japanese Motorcycle."
